Camping

The Danish Nature Agency has modified the general rules regarding camping with tents in specified forest areas. You will find more than 275 woodlands all over Denmark where you may set up your tent for a night. This is called fri teltning which translates roughly to free tenting.

Campers are a common sight in the Danish summer landscape, and for many Danes, camping is one of the most effective ways to enjoy the summer. A perfect combination of fresh air, freedom and the opportunity to unfold in your own setting, on premises where the whole family can participate.

Like the primitive camps sites, the Areas with free camping sites can be found on the Danish Nature Agency outdoor facilities portal. These areas can also be found through the free app available through the Shelterapp web site. The rules can be found at the Danish Nature Agency.

By law, wild camping or free standing is not allowed in Denmark in public spaces. Fines can range from €5 to €500. This means on beaches, in the forest, at the roadside, on car parks, in nature reserves … in other words, wild camping and free standing is not allowed anywhere.
